There are more than 150 wireless access points across the PAB, Knudsen, and Kinsey Pavillion areas to provide reliable wireless network connectivity for faculty, students, staff, and visiting scholars.
Network laserjet and wide format printers are available in the PAB and Knudsen buildings for faculty, staff, and graduate student use.
Most classrooms and meeting rooms in the PAB, Knudsen, and Kinsey Pavillion facilities are equipped with projectors. Portable projectors are also available for checkout by faculty, staff, and graduate students.
Physics & Astronomy department e-mail accounts are available for faculty, staff, and students. Departmental e-mail accounts are provisioned with 10GB of storage space and provide collaborative functionality including a calendar, address book, task list, and file storage "briefcase." E-mail accounts can be accessed through a webmail interface or client software installed on your computer.
VPN connectivity is available for accessing the Physics & Astronomy network from remote locations.
The computing group manages volume licenses for software used by the department. Through Microsoft MCCA licensing, faculty, staff, and students are able to download Microsoft Windows and Office software products for use on their work computers. The group also manages volume licenses for Mathematica and IDL.
Two wiki platforms are available for administrative and research group collaboration: Apple Wiki and TWiki. Both platforms offer comprehensive access control, SSL encryption, and are integrated with the department's authentication systems. Apple Wiki also provides a shared group calendar and blog.
The computing group provides web development, web hosting, and content management services for research and administrative groups. Research groups may request a Drupal-based website. Administrative groups may request development of custom web applications to automate business processes or create internal databases.
The IT helpdesk is provided as a means for faculty, staff, and students to contact the computing group staff. The helpdesk is manned by all IT staff, and questions are addressed as quickly as possible. The helpdesk is available at helpdesk.physics.ucla.edu .
The computing group manages the core network infrasturcture of the PAB, Knudsen, and STRB facilities. To request acitvation of network ports or to report network issues, please submit a help desk request .
The computing group provides hardware and operating system support for faculty and staff members. Please submit a help desk request for hardware and OS support requests.
The computing group is able to host and manage resource-intensive business or research applications upon request. Please submit a help desk request to inquire about application hosting.
